Candle Care Tips

Updated: Oct 26, 2023

Candle care is essential to ensure a safe and enjoyable candle-burning experience. Here are some tips to help you care for your candles:

  1. Trim the wick: Before lighting a candle, trim the wick to about 1/4 inch (0.6 cm) in length. Trimming the wick helps prevent excessive flickering, smoking, and uneven burning. It also helps the candle last longer.

  2. Avoid drafts: Place candles away from drafts, such as open windows, fans, or air conditioning vents. Drafts can cause uneven burning and make the candle produce more smoke.

  3. Burn candles for an appropriate duration: It's recommended to burn a candle for 1 hour per inch of its diameter. Burning a candle for too short a time can result in a small tunnel, and burning it for too long can cause the candle to become unstable.

  4. Allow the wax to melt evenly: During the first burn, make sure the wax melts evenly across the entire surface of the candle. This helps prevent the formation of a tunnel and maximizes the candle's burn time. It's generally recommended to burn a candle for at least 2-3 hours during the first use.

  5. Extinguish candles properly: To extinguish a candle, use a snuffer or gently blow on the flame until it's extinguished. Avoid blowing too hard as it may cause hot wax to splatter. This helps prevent smoke and ensures a clean burn for the next use.

  6. Keep the wax pool clean: Before relighting a candle, make sure to remove any debris or trimmings from the wax pool. This helps prevent the wick from becoming clogged and ensures a cleaner burn.

  7. Use candle accessories: Consider using candle accessories like a candle coaster or tray to protect surfaces from heat damage. You can also use a candle jar topper or lid to preserve the candle's fragrance when not in use.

  8. Never leave candles unattended: Always extinguish candles before leaving the room or going to sleep. It's important to prioritize safety and avoid the risk of accidents or fire hazards.

Following these candle care tips will help you enjoy your candles safely and make the most out of their burn time.
